  • Abstract:
Over the past 35 years, industrialised methods of dwelling construction have played an important role in low-income housing policies. After an analysis of the theoretical premises of industrialised building, the thesis examines the factors affecting the initiation and implementation of policies based on these methods of construction in four countries: the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, the United States of American and Iran. A major conclusion is that industrialised building has failed to live up to the claims and hopes of its proponents. However, the social forces which led to its widespread adoption still exist and continue to promote the building of low-income accommodation by industrialised methods of building.
